Information about TriNetX’s AI Integrated Features

TriNetX is committed to the responsible use of AI.  As the operator of the world’s broadest federated network of real-world data, we are pleased to provide the information and guidance (the “Information”) contained herein about the AI-enabled features or functionality that we make available to you via our Platform (the “Integrated Features”).  We may update or change this Information at any time.  This Information does not supersede any agreements we have with you or with your company or institution. If there is a conflict between this Information and those agreements, the agreements prevail.

1) TriNetX’s Commitment to Responsible AI

TriNetX integrates artificial intelligence features into its Platform to help you analyze our data more efficiently, uncover valuable insights, and accelerate innovation.
TriNetX believes that innovation in AI must be based on transparency, accountability, and ethical governance.

Our Integrated Features are designed and deployed in accordance with applicable AI laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Regulation (EU) 2024/1689: EU Artificial Intelligence Act (“EU AI Act”).

TriNetX acts as an AI Deployer, not an AI Provider. Any Integrated Features within the scope of this Information are categorized as limited or minimal-risk AI systems, as defined by the EU AI Act.

 

2) Purpose and Scope of this Information

This Information explains how TriNetX governs the design, integration, and use of our Integrated Features. It applies to all TriNetX products and services where any Integrated Features contribute to analytics, automation, or user assistance (e.g., chatbot, virtual assistant), whether developed internally or those developed by trusted third-party AI providers.

 

3) Scope and purpose of Integrated Features

Integrated Features use AI (or ML) in ways that enhance the functionalities of our TriNetX Platform.  Examples include assisting with data exploration, clinical code mapping, and cohort identification.

AI outputs are provided exclusively as technical tools to assist our users with their internal research activities. They do not constitute medical advice or regulatory conclusions, should not be relied upon as the sole source for decision-making, and are not for use in providing medical, diagnostic or treatment decisions.

 

4) Opt-Out

TriNetX customer(s) can elect to opt-out of Integrated Features at any time. Opting out will limit access to Integrated Functionalities but will not affect the core capabilities of our TriNetX Platform.

 

5) Key AI Governance Principles

Our Integrated Features adhere to our AI governance principles. These are:

Compliance by Design

Integrated Features are assessed for compliance before release and are continuously monitored to ensure adherence to applicable AI laws, including the EU AI Act.

Transparency

Integrated Features are clearly labeled as using AI. TriNetX may make additional information or documentation available to you, within our Platform or elsewhere, describing how our Integrated Features operate and their intended purpose.

Data Quality and Fairness

TriNetX applies reasonable commercial measures to minimize bias, inaccuracies, and disproportionate processing.

Where TriNetX controls data inputs into Integrated Features, we structure and process that data to support fairness and accuracy.

Accountability

Roles and responsibilities for the design, deployment, and oversight of Integrated Features are formally assigned within TriNetX.

Our personnel involved in Integrated Features related activities receive training and resources appropriate to their responsibilities.

Privacy and Security

Integrated Features operate in compliance with applicable data protection law and regulations, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”).

Consistent with our User Agreement, you must not provide personal data or Protected Health Information (“PHI”) when interacting with our Integrated Features.

6) Your Data Input and Output Responsibilities

Our User Agreement applies to the data you input into our Integrated Features as well as your use of the data output by Integrated Features.  Here’s what this means:

Input Data

  • You are responsible for ensuring that data you input to our Integrated Features is permitted under our User Agreement, e.g. that it is lawful, accurate, non-identifiable, and fit for your intended research purpose.
  • TriNetX does not verify or validate user-submitted input data.

Output Data

  • Our Integrated Features are clearly marked as AI-enabled; this means that any their output is generated at least in part by AI.
  • Such outputs may contain inaccuracies or bias.
  • Output are provided for only in support of your research. You remain responsible for validating any outputs before relying on them for your purposes, e.g., for your analysis or decision-making.

 

7) Explainability and Documentation

A listing of all Integrated Features with their purpose and function is provided in Section 10 of this Information document.

Upon request, TriNetX may provide its customer(s) with documentation demonstrating its responsible use of AI. Where an Integrated Features relies on a third-party AI Provider, TriNetX may refer to the provider’s official transparency materials.

 

8) Continuous Compliance and Improvement

TriNetX continuously monitors regulatory updates and emerging standards in AI ethics, data governance, and research.

If new legal or technical obligations arise under the EU AI Act or any other applicable regulatory framework, TriNetX will promptly update its internal processes and this Information.

 

9) Governance and Oversight

TriNetX maintains and applies an internal AI governance framework to its Integrated Features. This framework includes:

  • Risk classification for each Integrated Feature;
  • Periodic performance and bias monitoring, as required by applicable AI laws and regulations;
  • Incident response procedures for AI-related issues; and
  • Training and literacy programs for our staff involved in AI lifecycle management.

These measures are designed to ensure that TriNetX’s Integrated Features remains safe, ethical, and transparent throughout the product lifecycle.
