Cambridge, MA, August 7, 2017—TriNetX is pleased to announce the addition of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center to the TriNetX health research network. Wake Forest Baptist, a nationally recognized academic medical center and health system based in Winston-Salem, NC, becomes the nineteenth comprehensive cancer center, as designated by the National Cancer Institute, to join TriNetX.
TriNetX is a network comprised of healthcare organizations representing over 84 million patients globally, biopharmaceutical companies, and contract research organizations (CROs). Wake Forest Baptist joins other network members who are working together to improve protocol design, site selection, patient recruitment, and collaborative research across a range of therapeutic areas and development stages.
“Bringing the right study from pharmaceutical companies and CROs to the right patients is immensely crucial,” said Umit Topaloglu, Ph.D., Associate Director for Informatics at the Wake Forest Baptist’s Comprehensive Cancer Center. “Additionally, a comprehensive, standards-based data model will allow our investigators to better design new studies with real world data. TriNetX’s network will enable us to achieve these goals.”
“A functional and scalable data sharing network like TriNetX is an essential element for a learning healthcare system,” said Topaloglu. “It also provides a way to more easily establish peer networks with other organizations.”
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center includes Wake Forest School of Medicine, a leading center for medical education and research, the clinical structure of Wake Forest Baptist Health, and Wake Forest Innovations, which promotes the commercialization of the Medical Center’s research discoveries. They have been ranked among the country’s best hospitals by U. S. News & World Reports since 1993.
“We would like to attract the right clinical trials to serve our patient population that we can open and activate quickly,” Topaloglu said. “TriNetX has already established a secure and scalable network with community-agreed standards and ontologies. The business model protects our patients’ privacy yet enables trial designers to access our patient data in a federated model. With the inclusion of genomic data, TriNetX now makes cohort discovery for molecular and other clinical trials a reality.”
“We welcome Wake Forest Baptist to the network,” said Jim Whelan, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at TriNetX. “Adding another prestigious organization to the TriNetX network greatly enhances our expanding federated network of patient populations.”
Network members utilize TriNetX’s health research platform to analyze patient populations with search criteria across multiple longitudinal data points. TriNetX’s advanced analytics modules provide intelligence on the most impactful criteria as well as identifying the rate at which new patients present. Each de-identified data point in the TriNetX network can be traced to healthcare organizations who then are able to identify individual patients. Researchers can discover patients for industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated studies, as well as for collaboration with peer research institutions.
