Partnership to Accelerate Clinical Research Innovation Across German Association of 34 University Hospitals

Cambridge, MA, February 11, 2021 — TriNetX, the global health research network that enhances clinical research and enables discoveries through the generation of real-world evidence (RWE), and Verband der Universitätsklinika Deutschlands e.V. (VUD), the organization that represents 34 German university hospitals in close cooperation with the medical faculties, have signed an agreement aimed at enhancing and facilitating national clinical research in Germany. The objective of the partnership is to build a German collaborative network of university hospitals and medical schools which will be part of the TriNetX global health research network.

“The TriNetX platform will help us take an important and necessary step toward a more advanced digital system for clinical research and analytics in Germany,” said Jens Bussmann, General Secretary of VUD.

VUD acts as a mediator between the 34 German university hospitals and the legislators at the state and federal level in Germany and strives to achieve better economic and legal conditions for its members. It cooperates closely with the Association of German Medical Faculties (MFT). The aim of the organization is to support the university hospitals to continue to provide top quality care for the association’s combined 1.9 million inpatient and over 10 million ambulatory patients, and to introduce new clinical treatment into the health system. VUD also strives to increase the exposure of German medical schools in the international competition for biomedical research. To meet those goals, VUD has endorsed the TriNetX network and is encouraging all its member sites to join the five member hospitals who have already signed on.

“We are looking forward to showcasing the benefits of the TriNetX network when it comes to driving interest and placement of clinical trials from our pharmaceutical partners,” said Christina Mueller, TriNetX Director of Europe. “Investigator-led research with real-world data has been extremely successful and we are confident we can bring similar success to the members of VUD. The University hospitals are also poised to benefit through access to this newly-established German university hospital collaborative network, allowing for broader-scale national research within this group.”

TriNetX offers the fastest growing collaborative research network representing over 170 healthcare organizations (HCOs) and health data partners across the world. TriNetX has presented over 10,000 clinical trial opportunities to its HCO members and has been cited in more than 200 publications.

“Germany is one of the leading European countries when it comes to clinical research, adhering to the highest data privacy standards,” said Brecht Claerhout, Chief Data Officer at TriNetX. “We are delighted that TriNetX has been selected to be a trusted partner of VUD for accomplishing their goals and support the accelerated growth of our unique collaborative research network in Germany.”
